High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At Greenway Park Public School, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Greenway Park Public School, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is embedded in our daily teaching practices. We recognise that many students have exceptional potential, and we are committed to helping them develop it into meaningful achievement.

Our teachers identify individual learning needs and apply evidence-based strategies to challenge and extend every student. We offer a range of learning opportunities, including enrichment, extension programs, and acceleration pathways.

Classroom environments are supportive and inclusive, fostering a sense of belonging while encouraging creativity, collaboration, and the confidence to take risks. Flexible groupings, student-led initiatives, and strengths-based feedback with clear goals and opportunities for self-reflection are all part of our approach.

Our educators engage in ongoing professional learning to ensure they can meet the diverse needs of all students, especially those with high potential and gifted abilities.

Across our school

Every student is unique, so we offer a wide range of flexible and inclusive opportunities to support their growth.

Students are encouraged to explore and deepen their strengths through activities like debating, public speaking competitions, academic competitions, critical thinking workshops, and STEM pathways such as Lego Club and Tournament of the Minds.

We celebrate talent across the arts with performance showcases like Synergy Public Schools and Western Liverpool Festival of Performing Arts dance festivals, as well as programs in visual arts and choir.

Leadership is nurtured through the Student Parliament and a range of student-led initiatives that promote voice and responsibility. These opportunities empower students to develop confidence, teamwork, and a sense of pride in contributing to their school community.

Wellbeing is actively supported through a school wide positive approach to learning, high expectations and the implementation of evidence informed wellbeing approaches such as the Berry Street Education Model and the Anxiety Project.  Jelly Bean, our much loved Therapuppy also provides comfort and companionship across the school community.

Sport also plays a key role, with opportunities in PSSA competitions, training and coaching, house events, and inclusive PE programs designed to meet varying student needs. Additionally, students can participate in prestigious events such as the Catherine Cannuli Cup and the Wanderers Cup, which offer pathways for talented athletes to showcase their skills at higher levels. School carnivals provide vibrant environments for students to compete in a range of athletic activities, encouraging participation, school spirit, and personal bests. Together, these opportunities promote physical fitness, teamwork, and a sense of belonging among all students.

Across NSW

Our students participate in a wide range of local and statewide programs to extend and enrich student potential.

Students are given opportunities to participate in programs such as the NSW Premiers Spelling Bee, Prime Minister's Spelling Bee and the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competition.

High potential and gifted students have access to support through statewide and NSW Department of Education initiatives. We assist with applications, preparation, and reflection to ensure each experience contributes meaningfully to ongoing learning.
